print at T-Nest Press

Let us print your risograph project! See our print guidelines below and send us a print request to get your project started!

Risographs are similar to a copy machine that function more like silkscreen. Similar to silkscreen, they print one color at a time and each color is layered on the paper each time it passes through the machine to create a multi-colored print. They can make many copies fast from a single screen, making it a cheap and effective way to duplicate print media. At T-Nest Press we have an RZ from the early 2000s with 7 ink colors to choose from. See details below including a link for submitting your work to print at T-Nest Press.

Please note:

  • ⊳ We have a print minimum of 25 copies per project
  • ⊳ We print files received as-is and do not provide proofs, so make sure your files are set-up appropriately for your desired print result
  • ⊳ Once we accept your print request, we will require payment in full prior to starting your print job
  • ⊳ We do not fold/bind zines and books
  • ⊳ As is common in Risograph printing, there will be some variation in registration alignment from print to print
  • ⊳ We limit each page we print to a maximum of two different ink colors per page
  • ⊳ We take requests for more than 2-color prints on a case-by-case basis. Please email at t.nest.press@gmail.com with your project request and we will discuss if we can accommodate your project
  • We offer discounted rates for protest and mutual aid projects. Reach out to us at t.nest.press@gmail.com and we can discuss options based on your project

risograph terminology

Registration: How one layer of printed color aligns to another layer

Misregistration: When two or more color layers do not align with each other, making the final image less clear

Stencil: The risograph creates a new stencil for every layer of color that is part of your design

Print: a single image on a single side of a page. A double-sided page would have two prints, one on each side of the page

Impression: A layer of color added to the page. A two-color print has two impressions per page

Design: Your full artwork as given to us, this could be one or multiple colored piece of artwork

prepare your files for Riso printing

We do not design or edit your files for you, or do any pre-press work on your files, so please ensure they are ready-to-print. Please t.nest.press@gmail.com with any questions.
  • ⊳ Our Risograph can print up to 8.5 x 11” with an inkable area of 8”x10.5”. So prepare an 8.5”x11” with a ¼” margin on all sides.
  • ⊳ We accept jpg, png or pdfs of your artwork.
  • ⊳ Create one grayscale file per color impression. For example, if your single sided print will use 2 different inks, send one clearly labeled, grayscale file per layer (e.g., lella_page1a_maroon.pdf and lella_page1a_seafoam.pdf).
  • ⊳ We can not print solid ink on more than 50% of the page. Please ensure your artwork covers less than 50% of the total area for each color layer/impression. For Example: One layer in the color Melon can cover 50% in solid ink while a second layer of Federal Blue on top can cover a separate 50% of the total area in solid ink. If your image is low-density greyscale covering the page, such as a photograph with different densities of ink, that should print fine

We’ll respond with any follow-up questions and estimates within a week. If you have any questions or want to chat about more custom projects email us at t.nest.press@gmail.com
